Drew
Sullivan is a journalist and media development specialist based in
Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Washington DC. He is the founder of the Journalism Development Group LLC, a leading innovator in media development around the world. JDG designed, built and managed the Center for Investigative Reporting in Bosnia-Herzegovina, a leading independent, regional investigative news organization. CIN founded the Crime and Corruption Reporting Program with other regional partners where Drew served as director. JDG also runs management training projects in Algeria and Yemen. He is the former print media advisor for IREX
ProMedia in Bosnia. Before coming to IREX, Drew worked from Asia to Europe as a
consultant for IREX, Internews,
International Center for Journalism and the Center
for War, Peace and the News Media.
As a journalist, he served as
city hall reporter and investigative reporter for the Tennessean newspaper in
Nashville and as the news data editor and later manager for the Associated Press
in New York. He has served on the board of directors of Investigative Reporters
and Editors and the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting. He was
one of NICAR’s founding employees and started their data library and data analysis
program. He attended the masters program at the University of Missouri
School of Journalism.
In a prior lifetime, he was a structural dynamicist on the Space Shuttle project for Rockwell International Space Systems (now Boeing) and has a B.S. in aerospace engineering from Texas A&M University. In a more recent prior lifetime, he was a professional standup comedian who toured comedy clubs throughout the US.
