Looking across the Golden Horn from the old city to what was once the Genoan trading city of Galata. Istanbul is built at the confluence of the Sea of Marmara, the Golden Horn (a freshwater river) and the Bosphorus Strait which links the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara.
