The 13th century Gerhard Monastery. This fascinating monastery includes a number of chapels carved into the mountain. Known originally as Gerhardavank or "Temple of the Spear," it is reputed to be the final resting place of the spear that a roman soldier used to pierce Jesus on the cross. It is today a very active monastery.
