The NICAR staff wanted to do something special for its CAR Rock conference last September. The theme was Rock-n-Roll so they decided to do a takeoff of an Album cover. The album cover chosen was the Allman Brothers Live at the Fillmore East.
One afternoon they moved tons of equipment, old boxes and cables out to behind the Blue Note, a local live music venue. They got Adam Rust, an excellent local photographer, to take the picture. For the next hour and a half, he moved each person around to exactly match the cover. Despite ridicule from people passing by, Rust perservered to get the exact shot and poses he wanted.
The photo was sent to our co-sponsor of the conference. In the rush to get the program out, a staffmember chose an unfortunate and decidedly uncool cut line. The cutline indicated the staff had chosen to dress as Happy Days cast members. Oh well. Here is the picture in all its glory.
